Send this private invitation to your guest. They will use the room number and four-digit PIN to enter.
Each online player chooses their own piece color.
Choose No Timer or any move time up to 60 minutes. The active player loses the game when the clock reaches zero.
Offline timer changes take effect immediately. Online changes during play require the other player’s approval.
Offline preferences are saved in this browser. New online rooms save this shared appearance with the room.
Eight smooth instrumental tracks rotate automatically. These settings affect only this device and never change the other player's music.
The live Music panel beside the board controls playback and volume. Your choices are saved in this browser.
Most pieces cannot jump over another piece. The knight is the one exception. You capture an opponent’s piece by moving onto its square.
Your pawns move away from your side of the board toward your opponent. Flip Board changes only your view; it does not change the real direction of play.
Castling is legal only when the king and chosen rook have never moved, every square between them is empty, the king is not currently in check, and the king does not cross or land on a square attacked by an opponent. A rook may be under attack and castling can still be legal.
Check means the king is under attack. You must immediately move the king, block the attack, or capture the attacking piece. Checkmate means there is no legal escape, so the game is over. The king is never actually captured.
Stalemate happens when a player is not in check but has no legal move. The game is a draw. CyberLite Chess also recognizes official draw conditions such as repetition, insufficient material, and the fifty-move rule.
Castling protects the king and activates a rook. Open Help → How to Castle in This Game for exact desktop and phone instructions, destination squares, and a checklist for when castling is legal.
When a pawn reaches the far end of the board, choose a queen, rook, bishop, or knight. A queen is common, but another piece can sometimes be smarter.
If an opposing pawn moves two squares from its starting position and lands beside your pawn, your pawn may capture it as though it moved only one square. This special capture is available only on the very next move.
The room is private to the players who have its invitation details. Chat stays with that room and opens directly below the board when you touch Messages.
A guest uses Leave Room. The host uses Close Room when the room should be released for everyone. Merely closing the browser does not instantly destroy the room; use Resume Online Room after an accidental close or connection interruption. A room with no player activity expires automatically after 30 minutes.
The optional clock gives each player a fresh amount of time for every move. Choose No Timer or a per-move limit from one second through 60 minutes.
Open Settings → Appearance and Colors to choose a ready-made 2D theme, create custom 2D board and piece colors, or use one of the premium 3D themes. In online play, the host saves the shared appearance so both players see the intended room design. It is restored after reconnecting and preserved for rematches.
Open Settings → Music and Volume for the eight-track instrumental playlist, Previous, Next, On/Off, and dependable volume controls. The selected track, volume, and music setting are saved only in this browser, so each online player controls their own music independently. Sound can announce important game moments, including the timer’s last ten seconds. Guest Arrival Alerts can notify a waiting host when the invited player arrives, subject to the browser’s permission.
On a desktop, drag pieces with the mouse or click a piece and then its destination. On a phone, drag with a finger or tap the piece and destination. The layout automatically rearranges so the board, chat, menus, and controls remain usable.
